RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Gas prices in Virginia are going up despite falling demand.
Virginia’s average is $2.19, which is up eight cents from a week ago and up 11 cents from a month ago, according to AAA. But the average is also down 19 cents from this time last year. In the Richmond area, average gas prices are $2.23, which is 10 cents up from last week.
The national gas price average is $2.31, which is the highest it has been in 10 months.
“Gas prices are rising as supply tightens and crude oil gets more expensive. Decreasing demand is outweighed by these other factors at the moment,” said AAA spokesperson Morgan Dean. “Last week crude oil pushed to the highest price since before the pandemic. If crude prices remain high, Americans can expect to pay more at the pump this month.”
