RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - The GRTC says another employee has died from COVID-19 complications.

GRTC says they were notified on Jan. 10 after the employee died on Jan. 9.

The employee was the 38th GRTC employee to test positive for COVID-19, had non-public facing job duties and was last at GRTC on Dec. 10, 2020.

Back in September, GRTC lost an employee due to COVID-19 as well.

“Sunday morning, I heard the heartbreaking news that one of our non-public facing employees passed Saturday night. Out of respect for and at the request of the family, GRTC is not releasing any further information about this case,” GRTC Chief Executive Officer Julie Timm said.

Free counseling is available to all GRTC employees and their families through GRTC’s Employee Assistance Program.

Public transit employees are expected to begin receiving the vaccine soon as part of Group 1B, and GRTC is already coordinating with the Health Department on timing and logistics for vaccine deployment to its workforce.
