Woman killed, man injured in crash along I-85 in Petersburg

PETERSBURG, Va. (WWBT) - Virginia State Police says a woman has died and a man has been injured in a crash on Interstate 85 in Petersburg.

Troopers were called on Wednesday shortly before 4 p.m. to the crash north of Squirrel Level Road.

Police said a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe was heading north on I-85 in the right lane when it ran off the road to the right. The driver then went left, back into traffic lanes and overturned about three times. The vehicle then came to a stop against the jersey wall on the left shoulder.

The driver, a 19-year-old man, was wearing his seatbelt and had non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger, a 27-year-old woman identified as Jessica Davis, 27, of Richmond, was not wearing her seatbelt and ejected from the vehicle.

Davis was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries where she later died.

The investigation is ongoing.
