Political analysts weigh in on attack on the U.S. Capitol and the fallout

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - University of Virginia Center for Politics Executive Director Larry Sabato says President Donald Trump must now be removed from office with only two weeks left.

“This is what happens when you elect a narcissistic would-be dictator as President of the United States,” said Sabato.

Not holding back words, Sabato says Trump needs to go before his time in office is over.

“It’s time to invoke the 25th Amendment. Install Mike Pence. Get Donald Trump out of town and away from the levers of power,” said Sabato.

Sabato says pro-Trump supporters storming the halls of Congress is shameful and beyond outrageous.

“This is absolutely unprecedented. It is genuinely described as a coup attempt. This will go down in American history as a shameful day. It is directly tied to Donald J. Trump,” said Sabato.

Sabato says Trump’s allies and enablers, including four Virginia Congressmen who vowed to object to election results, also need to go. But if you think the political climate may change in Washington, Sabato says don’t hold your breath.

“Four Congressmen from Virginia also bear some responsibility for this and it’s up to their constituents. I’ll bet you right now they’ll re-elect them and that’s the problem,” said Sabato.

Sadly, Sabato doesn’t see things changing because of the events at the U.S. Capitol because 74 million people voted for Trump, asking for another four years.
