CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Several families in central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley are celebrating the new year, with a newborn!

Ashley Kathrine, daughter to Morgan and Brandon of Waynesboro, is Augusta Health’s first baby of 2021. She was born around 4 a.m.

Nathan Allan, daughter to Karen and Robert Kubinec, is Sentara Martha Jefferson’s first baby of the year. He was born around 3:30 a.m.

The Kubinec family lived in Charlottesville for about five years and are now living in the United Arab Emirates. They traveled back to Charlottesville to have Nathan at Sentara Martha Jefferson.

“I was joking with some of my friends, because our baby, this is a week late and I was saying, you know I don’t think our baby wants to be born in 2020 and apparently, he really didn’t want to be born in 2020, but it’s a reminder. It’s a new year, it’s new possibilities,” Robert Kubinec said.

Both babies and families are doing well and are thankful to start 2021 in such a happy way.
