Hopewell police hosting Holiday Toy Drive

HOPEWELL, Va. (WWBT) - The Hopewell Police Department is asking the public for donations to fill the SWAT truck with toys and items in need for this holiday season.

Items collected will be distributed to Hopewell families in need as well as to the pediatric wards in hospitals.

Children’s ages range from 2 months to 17-years-old.

Toy/necessity ideas can include:

  • Art supplies
  • Bed sets, bathrobes and other bathing items
  • Clothing such as slippers, pants, shirts, sweatshirts
  • Paw Patrol
  • Peppa Pig
  • Mickey and Minnie Mouse
  • Looney Tunes characters
  • Princesses
  • Minions
  • Baby shark
  • Avengers
  • Black Panther
  • Minecraft
  • Fortnite
  • Blues Clues
  • Developmental and learning toys
  • Coloring books
  • Toy trucks
  • Balls such as soccer balls, footballs, basketballs
  • Blankets
  • Baby bouncers and walkers
  • Stuffed animals
  • Hair scrunchies

The department has placed two wrapped boxes in the main lobby of headquarters to start collecting the items.

The boxes will be placed throughout the city for collection points. These places will be updated on the department’s Facebook page.

The department is requesting all items to remain unwrapped.

The items do not have to be new, however, if an item is used, it must be cleaned well.

The event will end on Dec. 18.
