RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - The Washington Football Team announced a player has tested positive for COVID-19.

Defensive tackle Matt Ioannidis received a positive coronavirus test, becoming the first player from the team to do so since the season began. NBC Sports Washington reported that Ioannidis was the recipient of the positive result.

As of now, the team does not believe that this Sunday’s game against the Bengals is in jeopardy.

Ioannidis has not played since Week 3 after tearing his bicep and does not travel with the squad as often as players on the active roster do. NFL Network reported that he had not been in the team facility during the last three days and did not travel to Detroit for Sundays' game.

Washington now enters the NFL’s intense protocol and will hold all meetings virtually this week. If further testing does not result in anymore positive tests, the team will be able to be on the field for a modified practice on Wednesday.

The NFL also released its latest COVID-19 testing results, with 17 players and 35 staff members testing positive within the past week.
