RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Governor Ralph Northam held a virtual ceremonial bill signing for the CROWN Act on Thursday.
In March, Virginia became the fourth state to ban hair discrimination.
The CROWN Act stands for “Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair.”
Northam was joined by Delegate Delores McQuinn and Senator Lionell Spruill.
“This CROWN Act hair discrimination bill takes one more reason off of the table for an individual to be discriminated against because of the way God created them. We are better than these barriers that dismiss and diminish people for no good reasons,” McQuinn said.
The bill adds to a growing movement for more acceptance and celebration of all hair types and textures.
