NORFOLK, Va. (WWBT) - Grant Golden scored 19 points, including the game-winning three pointer, leading Richmond to its fifth straight victory with a 62-59 win at Old Dominion on Wednesday night.
The Spiders opened up a nine point lead with 8:14 remaining in the first half, but saw the Monarchs trim that advantage to 31-27 by halftime. After Richmond extended the lead to eight in the second half, ODU clawed back, eventually tying the game at 56 with 3:32 remaining. Blake Francis connected on a three shortly after that to get the Spiders back on top, but a three-point play by Xavier Green knotted the contest once again, setting up Golden’s heroics.
The junior big man’s three pointer came with 2.1 seconds left on the clock, and the Monarchs’ desperation heave sailed past the basket, securing the win for Richmond.
In addition to his 19 points, Golden pulled down seven rebounds, while Francis added 18 points.
Richmond improves to 10-1 and will face Radford in Washington, DC, on Sunday. Tip-off is set for 3:30pm.
