RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - The last Sears store in the Richmond area will close in early 2020.

The company, which owns both Sears and Kmart, filed for bankruptcy on Oct. 15, with about 700 stores in operation. That move followed the closure of numerous locations throughout the country in an effort to save the business.

The only remaining location in the Richmond area is at Chesterfield Towne Center. Going-out-of-business sales will start there in early December. It will close for good in February.

All Kmart locations in Virginia have already closed.
