Police make arrest shooting that injured 1 near Richmond elementary school

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Police have made an arrest in a shooting that injured one man that happened near a Richmond elementary school on Nov. 1.

Officers were called to the 1400 block of Avondale Avenue, just a couple blocks from Linwood Holton Elementary, just after 1 p.m. When they arrived, they located a man who had been shot.

The victim was taken to a hospital with a life-threatening injury, but his condition has since been upgraded to non-life-threatening.

Police arrested Micha L. Smith, 18, who is charged with attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

“This is a great example of Northside community members cooperating with us,” said Major Crimes Detective Patrick Ripley. “As a result of some quality information, RPD officers were able to locate Smith yesterday in the 2600 block of Chamberlayne Avenue and take him into custody.”
