Man arrested for involuntary manslaughter in wrong-way crash that killed his wife

CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) - A man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and maiming in the wrong-way crash that killed his wife.

Police say Samuel J. Blair Jr., 62, turned left from Watkins Centre Parkway into the westbound lanes of Midlothian Turnpike, driving the wrong way, just after 9 p.m. Oct. 5.

Police say the vehicle ran off the road and into the median between the Midlothian Turnpike overpass over Route 288.

“The vehicle traveled down the median, struck an embankment, went airborne and crossed several lanes of traffic before landing in the southbound lanes of Route 288,” police said in a news release on Monday.

Police said Cynthia D. Blair was pronounced dead at the scene.

Blair is charged with driving while intoxicated, involuntary manslaughter and maiming. He is currently being held at Riverside Regional Jail without bond.
