RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia forestry officials are asking state residents to donate acorns and nuts help seed a state-run nursery.

WTOP-FM reports that the Virginia Department of Forestry needs help finding acorns and nuts that are difficult to find around the state's forestry center in Augusta County.

The department is seeking acorns and nuts from a dozen species of hardwoods, including black oak, black walnut, Chinese chestnut, chestnut oak, Northern red oak, pin oak, sawtooth oak, Southern red oak, swamp chestnut oak, swamp white oak, white oak and willow oak.

Donations can be dropped off at forestry offices in different parts of the state through Oct. 17.
