Longtime Petersburg judge found dead inside home

PETERSBURG, Va. (WWBT) - A death investigation is underway after a longtime Petersburg judge was found dead inside a home Friday night.
Police responded to the 1700 block of Westover Avenue at about 8:45 p.m.
According to former Petersburg Commonwealth’s Attorney Cassandra Conover, Judge James D’Alton was found dead.
Petersburg police conducted a death investigation. The Chief Medical Examiner said the manner of death was ruled suicide.
Conover said D’Alton was retired but would still work as a substitute judge.
