DINWIDDIE, Va. (WWBT) - Five people were injured, including three juveniles, when a tractor-trailer overturned on I-85 south Monday morning in Dinwiddie.
Just before 5 a.m., Virginia State Police responded to a crash and investigators determined a 2018 Freightliner was traveling in the right lane when it struck a 2018 Toyota Corolla in the rear.
The Corolla struck a guardrail on the right side, veered back into the roadway and went off the road to the left and struck a tree. The tractor-trailer lost control, overturned and struck a tree on the left side, causing a diesel fuel spill.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Duane L. Bryant, 47, of North Carolina, was charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain control.
Bryant was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor to serious injuries.
The driver of the Corolla was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and three juveniles in the Corolla were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The ages of the juveniles have not been released.
All five were wearing seat belts.
