Police charge man in connection to Redd Street murder in Richmond

Man shot, killed Friday in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - A man has been charged with murder in connection with a homicide that happened in August.

Police responded to the 1900 block of Redd Street at 7:46 p.m. on Aug. 10 for a reported shooting and found 28-year-old Cortez L. Wright, of Richmond, suffering from a gunshot wound lying in the street.

Wright was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rico T. Mattox, 27, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force on Tuesday, Oct. 15. He is charged with murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

“This homicide occurred during the daylight and we believe several people were out in the area at that time,” said Major Crimes Captain James Laino. “We are asking anyone with information to please come forward.”
