GOOCHLAND Va. (WWBT) - Three separate crashes sent seven people to the hospital and caused I-64 eastbound to be closed Tuesday morning in Goochland.
Just before 10 a.m., a Nissan Altima traveling eastbound lost control, hit the guardrail and spun around to face the opposite direction of travel in the right lane. A Chevrolet Malibu then struck the Altima.
As a result of those crashes, three people were transported to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The third crash involved four tractor-trailers and a Toyota Highlander that occurred while traffic was slowing due to the previous crashes.
A 2007 International tractor hauling a container unit struck the Highlander in the rear as it was coming to a stop. The International then struck a 2007 Freightliner flat bed that caused the Freightliner to jackknife and hit two additional tractor-trailers.
VSP said everyone involved in the third crash was wearing seat belts and four people were transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
