RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Richmond Public Schools (RPS) has announced a summer program partnership with the YMCA of Greater Richmond.

Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney and RPS superintendent Jason Kamras will join President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Richmond Tim Joyce during a special press conference Thursday, July 11 at 1:30 p.m.

The conference at Broad Rock Elementary School will celebrate National Summer Learning Day and the Y’s Power Scholars Academy.

More than 1,000 children in the City of Richmond are set to attend the Academy.

The Power Scholars program helps combat summer learning loss in high-risk students and foster physical and social-emotional growth, targeting students who are struggling academically and fostering confidence and academic achievement.

A major grant from Walmart helped make this partnership possible.
