Pregnant woman survives getting struck by stray bullets on Richmond’s southside

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - A pregnant woman shot on the city’s southside will survive.

The victim was shot Tuesday afternoon at the Lafayette Gardens apartment complex off Jefferson Davis Highway.

The woman, who was five weeks pregnant according to her family, was struck by two bullets in the leg. She and her baby are now in stable condition.

Police told the family that the gunfire was not intended for her. She was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Thankfully, she is now stabilized.

Neighbors said they heard multiple gunshots during the shooting.

Detectives combed the apartment complex for hours, collecting evidence and working to get any surveillance video possible.
