RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - A longtime Richmond business is closing its doors.

Loving’s Produce opened in 1942 but soon closed due to proprietor Harry Loving serving in World War II, according to the store’s website.

The store reopened in 1945 and has been family owned ever since, operating in various locations in Richmond - 5th Street, Canal Street, Grace Street and finally Castlewood Road.

Harry Loving was from Hanover and believed in the company’s motto “fresh is best.”

A call to the business confirmed it closed as of June 15. The reason given for the closure was the Loving sons who run the business want to retire.
