A trial is set to begin Monday in a lawsuit filed by women’s health groups seeking to overturn restrictions on abortion providers in Virginia.

The lawsuit is among legal challenges filed in at least a dozen states over what abortion-rights groups call Targeted Restrictions on Abortion Providers.

Convenience store fire

Richmond firefighters forced their way into a convenience store early Monday to battle a fire at a Midlothian Turnpike convenience store.

Firefighters saw smoke coming from the roof of the Z Express Food Mart and Deli around 12:30 a.m.

Fire officials say the blaze started in one of the offices.

Power back on in Chesterfield

A car hit a power pole late Sunday at South Beulah Road and Dalebrook Drive knocking out power to more than 1,300 Dominion Energy customers.

Dominion Energy crews worked overnight to restore power to the neighborhood, which is near Bensley Elementary School.

Man injured in shooting

The Richmond Police Department says a man was injured in a shooting early Monday morning.

Police were called to the scene in the 1200 block of Carlisle Avenue around 1:20 a.m. to find the victim, who was transported to VCU Medical Center.

He’s expected to be OK.
