STAFFORD, Va. (WWBT) - Stafford County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Saturday morning for driving under the influence while on the wrong side of the road.
A deputy saw a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed in the northbound lanes of Warrenton Road in the area of McLane Drive around 5:12 a.m.
The deputy had to maneuver his vehicle out of the way before being hit. The driver also narrowly avoided striking two other vehicles.
The deputy activated his emergency and equipment followed the suspect driving in the wrong way.
The driver pulled over and was identified Eric Ward, 38, of Fredericksburg.
“Ward admitted to drinking prior to driving. He told the deputy he was driving on the wrong side of the road because he was distracted. Field sobriety tests were subsequently conducted and a preliminary breath test was administered,” a release said.
Ward was taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
