‘A hoax’: Lockdown lifted after no weapon found at Manchester High School

Lockdown lifted at Manchester High School

CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) - The Chesterfield Police Department says the lockdown has been lifted at Manchester High School after a "third-party report that a student may be in possession of a gun at school.”

“No weapon was found,” the police department posted on social media after a sweep of the school.

Police Chief Col. Jeffrey Katz called the incident a “hoax” and urged anyone with information to come forward.

Earlier Friday morning, the police department had said the school was on lock down as a precaution.

“At this point, no weapon has been found,” the police department posted on social media around 10:45 a.m.

Police urged parents to not to go to the school as the investigation was ongoing.

Katz urged parents to avoid coming to the area “where there is no credible threat.”

The school system also addressed the lock down saying that the school was on lockdown “while police investigate an at-this-time unsubstantiated rumor of a weapon on school property.”
