Fallen officers honored in Bike the Blue Memorial Ride

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - This week is National Police Week! It’s a week to recognize the men and women in blue.

Monday, dozens started on a more than 100-mile journey to do just that.

More than 100 officers are making the journey from the state capitol all the way to our nation’s capital for the annual Bike the Blue memorial ride, ending with a ceremony in honor of fallen officers.

“[It’s] a lot of emotions, you know, it’s one of those things working every day it’s in the back of our mind the danger of the job, but you just have to go about it, it’s your job,” said Sgt. Nate Ballentine with the Chesterfield County Police Department.

“Every day you go to work and think that could be me. I could pay the ultimate sacrifice trying to help someone," said Cpl. William Willson, of Chesterfield County Police Department.

The bicyclists and motorists traveled 109 miles up Route 1.
