RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Scattered showers and storms will be likely Sunday morning and afternoon. A few strong storms will be likely during the afternoon.
The Storms Prediction Center has placed a portion of central Virginia in a *slight* risk of severe weather. That’s all the counties in yellow.
Counties in green are under a *marginal* risk of severe weather which can be thought of as a 1 out of 5 on the severe weather threat scale.
An area of low pressure will move across Virginia along a stationary front. This type of set-up often produces heavy rain and can sometimes produce rotating thunderstorms with a brief tornado and damaging straight line winds possible. The biggest risk for this to happen will be south of Petersburg and southeastern Virginia.
Here is what the radar could look like at various times on Sunday afternoon.
Heavy rain will be possible with any storms that develop. Up to 1 inch will be possible.
It’s a good idea to download the NBC12 First Alert Weather App for the latest updates on the forecast and to receive any watches or warnings that may be issued.
