Mail truck driver killed on I-295

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - One person was killed when a mail truck overturned Thursday evening on I-295 in Henrico.

The crash occurred near the Woodman Road exit at 6:14 p.m.

Virginia State Police said a mail truck driven by a Garland R. Bland, 41, of Chesterfield, was traveling in the center lane when it was struck from the rear by a Mazda 6 driven by Lauren E. Colognori, 30, of Midlothian, ran off the road and overturned.

Bland was not wearing seat belt, was partially ejected from the truck and died at the scene.

Colognori was transported to hospital with serious injuries. She was charged with reckless driving.

The crash remains under investigation.

Traffic through the area was delayed for several hours while officials processed the scene.
