RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - We have a great update on a story we’ve been following. The young basketball prodigy Azaan Delp also known as RVA’s Baby Steph Curry has just met his idol, the real Stephen Curry.
After our story aired, word got around to the real Steph Curry and his management flew the 7-year-old and his family out to California last week for an all expenses paid trip to a Golden State Warriors home game.
It was a dream come true for Azaan Delp, who says he couldn’t control his emotions.
“I was excited and I was so happy,” Delp said.
Delp’s mother tell said Steph Curry’s management reached out to her via Instagram.
“The moment was here, it was happening, it didn’t even feel real,” Carmina Whitehead said. “First thing in the morning I had just opened my eyes and I opened my eyes to this person saying Steph Curry has seen your son’s video and he wants to meet him. I couldn’t talk, my hands were shaking, I was crying.”
And if that wasn’t good enough, the pint-sized basketball prodigy got to chat with the reigning NBA champion court-side during warm-ups.
“Meeting Steph was super good, and I got to take a picture with him,” Delp said.
“It all happened so fast, but it was like that moment was destined," Whitehead said. “When I saw the way Steph smiled and waved at Azaan, it was just priceless."
As big as the dream seemed, Whitehead always believed her son would meet Steph Curry and credits NBC12 for making her sons wish come true.
“I felt like NBC12 was such a huge tool to be able to get the message to Steph," said Whitehead. “I’m sure it was because of you guys he saw this.”
