GOOCHLAND, VA (WWBT) - No one was injured, but an 8,000 square foot home is a total loss following a fire Tuesday morning.
Goochland Fire says they were called just before 8:30 a.m. to Joe Brooke Court, and found the garage of the home engulfed. Interim Fire Chief Eddie Ferguson says the fire spread to the main house reaching as far as the attic.
Close to 30 firefighters from several counties spent hours extinguishing the fire and working to knock out hot spots.
“This is a rural area of the country so we have to go into a water supply shuttle mode so we are getting water out of two lakes that have dry hydrants," explained Ferguson.
Ferguson says the family acted quickly to save their own lives and the lives of their animals.
“I will tell you, they did everything exactly correct. They made a quick call to 911. The mother was here, she got her son out safely and all of their pets," he said.
The cause of the fire is still undetermined and still under investigation.
