CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - A tractor trailer was involved in a fiery crash on I-95 early Thursday morning. The crash closed north and southbound lanes for more than an hour.
State police responded to the crash at I-95 north near the Willis Road exit at 3:44 a.m.
Officials say a Panda passenger bus lost a rear tire in the center lane along I-95 north, and was then disabled on the side of the road. A tractor trailer traveling northbound then hit the tire, losing control and catching fire after going through the median.
The driver of the tractor trailer was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.
The tractor trailer was not charged in the crash. The bus driver was charged with defective equipment.
Another crash then occurred on I-95 south when a tractor trailer slowed down to avoid debris and was rear-ended by another vehicle. The second crash only involved property damage, with no reported injuries.
By 7 a.m., all lanes of the interstate reopened.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
