State trooper vehicle struck in police chase on I-95

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - A police chase that began early Thursday morning in Henrico ended in Chesterfield.

Henrico police say a traffic stop was conducted for a reckless driver, on I-64 East between Gaskins Road and Patterson Avenue. The driver fled from the scene. The driver eventually traveled onto southbound I-95.

The pursuit ended at approximately 3 a.m. at I-95 near the Route 10 exit in Chesterfield County.

The driver struck a concrete barrier and a state trooper vehicle, but police say no one was hurt in the incident.

Claude J. Centanni, 38, of Richmond, is currently in the custody of state police. He is facing a felony charge for eluding police, assaulting a police officer, stealing a vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a revoked license.

He is currently being held at the Chesterfield County Jail.

The incident remains under investigation.
