NEW KENT, VA (WWBT) - A van driver faces a reckless driving charge after crashing into a Pizza Hut in New Kent County.
The crash happened Sunday evening at Star Express.
Police have not identified the driver, but say the person is facing a reckless driving charge.
Derek Armstead, who witnessed the crash while he was pumping gas, says he saw an elderly woman speeding in the van through the parking lot.
“It was just a normal routine. She was just driving and I thought she was going to stop and she just keep going until she hit the back of the Pizza Hut,” said Armstead.
After finding out there were no injuries, people began to come out and see the damage for themselves. All were grateful that everyone was okay.
“It’s a miracle that no one got hurt because I thought for sure someone’s life was over,” added Armstead.
It is unknown when the Pizza Hut will re-open. The attached Star Express has been cleared to re-open after a building inspection was completed.
The driver of the van has been charged with reckless driving.
