LOUDOUN, VA (WWBT) - The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation has named Highland Springs' head football coach, Loren Johnson, the Redskins High School Coach of the Year.
The title is presented by the Washington Redskins and Inova Sports Medicine partnership.
The Springers recently celebrated an undefeated season and a 5A State Championship Title.
Coach Johnson has coached football at the Henrico high school for 10 years.
“He builds young men. When you watch him interact with young people, he is seldom talking about the sport of football but rather about the student, their successes and their academics - that’s the difference with him,” said Highland Springs Director of Activities Rick Lily.
The coach makes it his mission to limit full contact tackles and implement safe tackling and ball-carrying techniques, ensuring safety on the field.
“Coach Johnson knows that it takes a village to raise a child and he goes out and finds people to bring into that village - beyond the school and the home. He galvanizes the community,” said Assistant Coach Austin.
