RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Technology is an easy option for kids at Christmas - it’s fun, it doesn’t take up a ton of space and it can keep them busy. But there are a few things to keep in mind, if you go this route.
Talk to neighbors or friends, and consider how it will be used. Will you need parental controls?
Second, get acquainted. Learn the device and test the controls before your kid gets it.
Set ground rules, and do it from the start. Talk about when, where and how the device will be used. Talk about passwords. Will you want to know them? When will it be okay to use the device?
Consider restrictions. For example, will you have “device-free” areas of your home? Or device-free times?
Finally, plan ahead on when you can use the device together. Many of us turn to devices to keep kids busy while parents get stuff done. However, learning with the child can be valuable as well. If you want to check out some more tips, just click here.
