RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The Virginia Commonwealth University Board of Doctors voted to rescind Bill Cosby’s honorary doctoral degree on Friday, Dec. 7, 2018.
The Board says the action reaffirms the university’s commitment to treat all people with decency and respect and to complete the elimination of sexual misconduct.
According to the university, Cosby’s actions are antithetical to the standards of conduct expected from every member of the VCU community.
University leaders say they were unaware of Cosby’s wrongdoing at the time he was honored.
“We will continue to ensure that VCU welcomes and supports everyone and wholly commits to the highest ethical standards, including our stated core values of accountability and integrity,” the Board wrote in a statement.
