Police respond to deadly shooting in South Richmond

Deadly South Richmond shooting

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Richmond police have identified the victim in last night’s shooting as 22-year-old Brandon Law.

As blue lights flickered off the walls of these brick buildings, a community is left gripped with fear as police investigate another deadly shooting at the Aiden Park apartment complex on the 5700 block of Westover Village Drive.

Neighbors said they were alerted to what sounded like fireworks early in the evening, but realized it was something serious when they heard sirens quickly approaching the complex.

Richmond police arrived on the scene at 6:46 PM to find Law unresponsive in the parking lot of the apartment complex, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fhyliss Johnson has been living at these apartments for over three years and said this latest loss of life hits way too close to home.

"It’s too much, it’s really too much,” said Johnson. “It’s real sad, the way it is now it could happen to anybody.”

This is the second deadly shooting this community has experienced in less than two weeks.

Police said it’s too early to say whether the two shootings are connected.

Police said no arrests have been made, but stress there is no longer any danger to the community.

Anyone with any information about the death investigation should call Major Crimes Detective J. Higgins at 804-646-7570.
