BROOKNEAL, Va. (AP) - Authorities say a 13-year-old Brookneal boy is facing charges related to the fatal shooting of an 11-year-old boy.
Campbell County Commonwealth's Attorney Neil Vener says the 13-year-old has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Andrew Bryant Lambert.
Officials with the Campbell County Sheriff's Office initially called the incident "horseplay," in which the older boy pointed a hunting rifle at the victim. The third time he pointed the gun, he cocked the rifle and pulled the trigger, killing Lambert.
Investigator Mike Milnor said the 13-year-old thought the gun was unloaded but new evidence came to light at a detention hearing on Thursday. The information came from witnesses who were re-interviewed about the incident.
