WASHINGTON (AP) - Congressional officials say President Barack Obama plans to pull troops out of Iraq by August 2010.

His plan would leave behind about 40-thousand troops to advise Iraqi troops and protect US interests.

The officials disclosed Obama's plans after a meeting at the White House. Obama is expected to announce the new strategy on Friday.

About 145 national guard soldiers based in Richmond will return from Iraq on Friday.

They have been serving overseas since last May.
