CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - About 300 workers at the GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms facility in Albemarle County are being furloughed for two weeks.

The temporary two-week layoffs come on the heels of the company's announcement in mid-January that it was cutting around 50 employees. The facility employs about 600 workers.

GE Fanuc is a joint venture between General Electric Co. and Japan's Fanuc, a company that specializes in automation and robotics. The Albemarle County facility builds hardware and software for manufacturing companies.

Spokeswoman Elli Holman said furloughed workers will not receive hourly pay during the two weeks, but will receive benefits. Workers are also being offered the option of using vacation days and may seek unemployment benefits during the two weeks.
