CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - The Norfolk Commonwealth's Attorney's office says that a Chesterfield teacher was arrested while on an overnight field trip last week.

Jean Marie Mendelis has one pending misdemeanor charge of drunk in public and has a court date scheduled for April 7.

Mendelis is a history teacher at James River High School in Midlothian.

A letter from Chesterfield County Public Schools sent home over the weekend says the Mendelis was asked to leave the Model U.N. event that was being held in Norfolk following the arrest.

In the letter, the school administration says Mendelis will not be returning to the classroom, pending completion of an investigation.
