RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - For well over a year, we have been telling you about the transition to digital TV. It was scheduled for Feb. 17. Now Congress and the President have decided to give broadcasters more time to make the change.
They are concerned that too many Americans are not ready, so they have moved the deadline to June 12.
To make matters confusing, some stations will still make their transition as planned on Feb. 17. Others will wait.
Here at NBC12, we intend to wait until more households are ready. We will give you a definite date in the near future.
As a reminder, if you're watching a TV connected to cable or satellite, you are ready for the digital TV transition. But if you are watching an older television, using an antenna without a converter, you're probably not ready.
If you're one of those homes, please don't wait until June to get ready. Converters and antennas are available in stores right now. But if you wait until June, you run the risk of seeing snow on your TV set this summer.
