State may revise transportation plans to address budget shortfall

Posted by Colby Rogers - email

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The Commonwealth Transportation board is expected to adopt a rare revised mid-year transportation plan Thursday to address an estimated $2.6 billion shortfall for the department over the next several years.

That could mean delays for many planned transportation projects around Virginia.

The department says projects already underway and roads deemed unsafe will not be affected by the cuts.

The transportation secretary says shutting down some of these road projects could force some road and bridge closures in the future, but stresses that rail and public transportation will still be funded.
