RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Retail sales are down across the country, so shop owners in the Shockoe slip are pulling out all the stops to reverse the trend.

"The economy is challenging for everyone right now and home furnishings are suffering because we are a component of the housing industry. So we've got to do everything that we can to get people down here," said Andy Thornton, Owner of LaDifference.

The plan is to offer a big deal, if you spend money more you get more.

Spend a hundred dollars in the slip and receive two tickets for Canal Cruises, plus five dollars off at some of the restaurants. If you spend 200 dollars, you still the lunch vouchers but you also get two free tickets for Segway Tours.

"They get a two and a half hour tour of all the historic landmarks of downtown Richmond. It's a six and a half mile route. You basically glide through history," said Segway of Richmond Owner Buck Ward.

Mike Campbell bought his wife a Valentine's Day gift and ended up spending enough to receive one of the trips.

"I picked the segway trip. Why? I've never done it. I've always wanted to do it," said Campbell.

"I'm hoping that this will bring Richmonders to Richmond. To downtown Richmond and find out how fantastic it is," said Angie Heyming, Owner of These Four Walls.

The deal runs through the end of March. You can get your vouchers at the store 'These Four Walls' on 14th and Cary. All you have to do is show them your receipts for the money you've spent in the slip.
