Henrico police warn of unusual break-ins

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -  Police say robbers are preying on apartment residents by pretending to be apartment complex staff.

At least four break-ins have been reported in eastern Henrico county. Police aren't sure if they're all related, but they do have similar circumstances.

Henrico Police say the robbers knock on the door and hold a letterhead from an apartment complex up against the peep hole. If no one answers the door, they try to break in.

If someone does answer, police say the robbers act as if they have the wrong address, apologize and walk away.

Police say they connected the break-ins with the letter incidents purely by accident because the break-ins occured when residents weren't at home.

Anyone who has encountered a similar incident who remembers what the person looked like is asked to call Henrico Police at 501-5000.
