CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Fire crews have been fighting a couple of dozen brush fires around the metro area.
The Chesterfield Fire Department was on top of every fire from the command center at its fire training facility. Four stations helped organize the logistics and planning of what fire engines went where. There was even a section for financing. Officials say all of it helped the crews get to the fires quickly with minimal stress.
"It really lets them focus on that one brush fire that they are dealing and not let them worry about the next brush fire or what could come next ," said Chesterfield Fire Department Battalion Chief Robbie Dawson.
The department started the command center for high alerts days after Tropical Storm Gaston.
Dawson stresses with a large county like Chesterfield, department officials need to be in one spot to see the big picture and respond approprietly.
Chesterfield had all of the brush fires under control by mid-afternoon Thursday. There were no reports of any homes being damaged or any injuries. Many of the fire crews in the area plan to stay on high alert throughout the night.
