BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Virginia Tech says it will only be able to offer contracts to about 75 percent of returning students who requested on-campus housing for the upcoming school year, to make way for the incoming freshman class.
Virginia Tech said Monday that there will be 3,285 housing contracts to offer for 2009-10 by random lottery after the Feb. 14 housing application deadline. It's the first time in several years that demand has outpaced available space.
Demand for on-campus housing has increased with the number of applications to attend Virginia Tech. An unexpectedly high number of accepted students chose to attend the university last year. And\ the planned renovation of East Ambler Johnston residence hall is contributing to a housing shortage over the next two years.
