Warm clothing donations soar for local church

From NBC12 News

RICHMOND, VA (NBC12) - A local church is thanking NBC12 viewers for their generosity.

Friday night, the church was overrun with needy people looking for a place to get out of the cold.

Last night, we told you that the church needed supplies.

Since our story aired, the church has received donations from more than 200 people.

The pastor can't believe the response.

"Right now, I would say we have received 1,200 to 1,500 pieces of clothes, scarfs, pants jackets, socks underwear, anything you can think of people have been dropping it off," said Sixth Zion Baptist Church Pastor Tyrone Nelson.

And its not just clothes.

Pastor Nelson said the church has also received close to $1,500 in donations and a great deal of food.

At this point, the church is asking people still looking to donate, to hold off until the middle of next week.

At that point, they will have a better assessment of their need.
