Vandals target car windows in Chesterfield neighborhoods

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Chesterfield police are investigating who is shooting out vehicle windows in several western chesterfield neighborhoods. It's happened nine times in the past week.

Lee Wells is used to fixing things. He repairs heating and air conditioning units for a living. But now he's having to repair his brand new Mustang's window.

Monday night, somebody shot out the driver's side window of the car while it was parked in front of his house. Wells says it will likely cost $1,500 to fix his car.

Wells' car is just one of nine that have been the targets for vandals in western chesterfield neighborhoods since Jan 8.

Police say the vandals have hit the Brandermill, Foxcroft, Foxfield, Foxfire and Woodlake subdivisions. They believe the vandals are driving around and shooting out windows with BB guns.

So far, the vandals have done thousands of dollars in damage.

Investigators aren't certain if the vandals are teens, but say in most cases it is.

Wells and other residents in the vandalized neighborhoods say they don't want the county to hold back when it comes to prosecuting those responsible.
