January 8: Restaurant Report

Richmond, VA (NBC 12) - From a sandwich shop in Henrico, to a diner in the city, 35 critical violations in tonight's Restaurant Report.  We begin in Henrico.

Topping tonight's critical list, Tops China (5660 Brook Road ) with 8 criticial violations.  Among them, raw shrimp and chicken found stored above vegetables.

Staying in Henrico, Jersey Mike's Sub Shop (11444 West Broad) with 5 critical.  An inspector observed a worker put a raw steak on the grill, then handle bread without washing their hands.

Moving on to Richmond, Crossroads Restaurant and Lounge (217 West Clay Street) with 5 critical violations.  An inspector discovered powder pesticides used in the establishement that could potentially contaminate food.

Also in Richmond, City Diner (2237 West Broad) with 5 critical, including rodent droppings found throughout the dry storage area.

In Chesterfield, Shoney's (12531 Jeff Davis Highway), with 5 critical.  Among them, a food employee who failed to wash potentially contaminated hands.
And finally, El Paso Mexican Restaurant (11521 Midlothian Turnpike) with 7 critical violations, including cooked beef, cheese dip, white sauce and salsa held at improper temperatures.

And now for the good news!  This week's Hall of Fame Award goes to Subway Sandwiches and Salads (1216 North Concord Avenue) in Henrico for a perfect inspection December 4th!
