Customers wait in line for bargains

From NBC12 News

RICHMOND, VA (NBC12) - Holiday shopping is underway, customers here in our area got a head start on some of the big deals on black Friday.

At a Best Buy in Chesterfield Friday morning, people lined up for hours waiting to find good deals on anything from flat screen TV's and x-boxes to labtops and GPS systems. One local shopper was well prepared for the one gift he wanted to get.

Mark Johnson said he was only after one deal. And that was one of the store's GPS systems that his whole family could use.

Across the nation, shoppers flocked to stores before dawn Friday to grab deals on everything from TVs to toys for the traditional start of the holiday shopping season.

However, despite the crowds that showed up for early morning deals, shoppers' worries about the economy tempered buying.

Analita Garcia of Falls Church, Virginia arrived at a local Best Buy store at 7 a.m. with 10 other family members. She bought a 32-inch TV, an iPod and several DVDs.

Garcia says she'd never shopped early before to save a few dollars, but this year it's different. With the economy so bad, she says even a few dollars helps.

Black Friday falls on the day after Thanksgiving and officially starts the holiday shopping period.
