NBC12 Hall of Fame: Five Guys, Burgers & Fries

By Ashley Wharton

HENRICO, VA (NBC12) - We take a closer look at the local restaurants that are going the extra mile to keep their kitchens clean. A favorite spot for a Hearty meal in Henrico, this week's winner: Five Guys, Burger and Fries.

It's not just the burgers that sizzle at this busy Henrico restaurant. The near-perfect health inspection record of the Five Guys, Burgers and Fries on Broad Street in Glen Allen has also created some buzz.

General manager Cory Mazaros says when it comes to cleanliness, their motto in the kitchen is never stop working.

"We just stay on top of every little thing," says Mazaros.

With a menu featuring hamburgers made from fresh ground beef, employees also stay on top of handwashing.

"That's probably one of the most important things," says Mazaros.

Making sure a glove that touches any raw meat is changed.

Regular customers like Kerry Grygo come at least once a week. Grygo says, "The fries ... that's the best part."

Returning again and again for a meal and service, they say doesn't get any better.

"I know the food's gonna be good, it's quick," says Grygo.

To be recognized with the NBC12 Hall of Fame award, restaurants must have received a perfect heath department inspection, that means zero critical and non-critical violations.
